Hello &

Welcome!

We’re so glad you found us.

The mission of our church is to “connect in spirituality and in service, to care for each other and the world, and to create loving community.” We hope that you’ll learn more about us and that you’ll get in touch with any questions.

In this evolving time of COVID 19, we are experimenting with how we meet and worship.

About Unitarian Universalism

With its historical roots in the Christian tradition, Unitarian Universalism is a liberal religion that maintains an open mind to the religious questions people have asked in all times and places. Unitarian Universalists believe that each person has a trustworthy relationship with the spirit, with the mystery, with the universe, with the source of all life, with what some call God—though we name it and know it differently from one another. We actively seek the liberating power of a Love that is larger than us. Most of all, we believe that the spiritual dimension of life calls us to the social dimension of it, and that it matters less what you believe and more how you live.

Our congregations draw inspiration from multiple sources, share a set of values, and affirm and promote 7 principles.

Sources of Inspiration

Direct experiences of transcending mystery and wonder are primary sources of Unitarian Universalist inspiration.

These experiences open our hearts, renew our spirits, and transform our lives.

We draw upon, and are inspired by, sacred, secular, and scientific understandings that help us make meaning and live into our values.

These sources ground us and sustain us in ordinary, difficult, and joyous times. We respect the histories, contexts, and cultures in which these sources were created and are currently practiced.

Grateful for the experiences that move us, aware of the religious ancestries we inherit, and enlivened by the diversity which enriches our faith, we are called to ever deepen and expand our wisdom.

Shared Unitarian Universalist Values

Love is the power that holds us together and is at the center of our shared values:

  • Interdependence: We honor the interdependent web of all existence and acknowledge our place in it.

  • Pluralism: We are all sacred beings, diverse in culture, experience, and theology.

  • Justice: We work to be diverse multicultural Beloved Communities where all feel welcome and can thrive.

  • Transformation: We adapt to the changing world.

  • Generosity: We cultivate a spirit of gratitude and hope.

  • Equity: We declare that every person is inherently worthy and has the right to flourish with dignity, love, and compassion.

Our Unitarian Universalist Principles

1st Principle: The inherent worth and dignity of every person
2nd Principle: Justice, equity, and compassion in human relations
3rd Principle: Acceptance of one another and encouragement to spiritual growth in our congregations
4th Principle: A free and responsible search for truth and meaning
5th Principle: The right of conscience and the use of the democratic process
6th Principle: The goal of world community with peace, liberty and justice for all
7th Principle: Respect for the interdependent web of all existence of which we are a part

Because our congregations are self-governing, most of them develop covenants that guide how we treat each other.

This is our church covenant:

We, the members of the Unitarian Universalist Church of Greensboro, do covenant to:

  • Promote a search for personal meaning, respecting the individual truth in a community process of quest.

  • Speak and act with caring, courtesy, and love, thereby maintaining emotional, physical, and spiritual safety for all.

  • Support UUCG and denominational efforts with our resources.

  • Combat injustice while promoting equality.

  • Nurture our children on their spiritual journey.

  • Hold ourselves to this covenant, especially during times of conflict and disagreement.
