UUCG Auction History
It all started…
In 2008, our amazing Charlotte Hamlin created the UUCG annual auctions we have today. She called it the Cabaret Auction, got a temporary liquor license to sell beer and wine, and hired some drag queens to perform for us. It was an outstanding success! Not only did many people attend, but we raised much more money than we ever dreamed of. Going forward, members of our congregation provided wonderful entertainment every year and we had a large spread of food, much of which was homemade.
Each year, we acquired many auction donations. Some of these were from local businesses, but the majority were goods and services provided from our members. David Emery donated an amazing goat skin coat. It is still auctioned off every year with the winner using it until the next auction. Our hosted events, such as dinners, always reign in the big bucks!
Recent auction themes have included The Roaring 20’s, Front Porch Shindig, A Night at the Theater, Camp Talent Show, and Prom. In 2020, much like the rest of the world, our auction changed to a virtual format and will continue that way in November 2021. Best of all, you are invited!
