Programs for Children & Youth
The religious education classes for children and youth from preschool through 12th grade are provided during Sunday morning service. Curriculum content for each group is conceptually appropriate and changes annually.
SUNDAY SCHOOL PROGRAM
Sundays 10:55am-12:00pm, beginning in the worship service
UU BIBLE, UU TALES is for children aged preschool thru 2nd grade. This class provides our younger children a familiarity with tales from our root texts – the Old and New Testaments as well as exposing our children to historical figures important in UU history. Each session is based on a children’s picture book, followed by age-appropriate discussions and activities
THE SIMPSONS & UU is for children aged 3rd – 7th grades. It uses episode of “The Simpsons” as the basis for in-depth discussions of a wide variety of religious topics. At each class, an entire episode is viewed, followed by discussion and activities, designed to encourage a first deep contemplation of issues related to religion and faith.
CIRCLE WORSHIP is a form of spiritual communion that originates in UU youth conference culture, using song, poetry, and rituals drawn from a variety of sources and affirming the human experience. It invites participants into an experimental place of greater openness, trust, and spirit, building community through a profound acceptance and celebration of each individual’s unique experience.
TAKING TO THE (UU) STREETS: This project, co-sponsored by UUCG’s Justice Action Team and the Youth Religious Education Team, began with a simple idea: we see people all the time standing by the side of the road with signs asking for help. Some of us are comfortable giving them money. Some of us are not. And yet as UUs, we need to acknowledge their humanity, their dignity and reach out, living our 1st and 2nd Principles: to show justice, equity and compassion in human relations. We collect individual-serving non-perishable food items and hygiene items. Kids who bring money for an offering may give it to buy items for TTS bags. Individuals contribute items in the lobby to the TTS basket or may give a monetary contribution to purchase items for carebags. The YRE children assemble the collected items into bags, and make them available for anyone who was comfortable to distribute these to the less fortunate. Each month we produce at least 3-4 dozen bags, all of which have been distributed within two weeks. Assembling care bags for TTS will be a regular component of the YRE.

Additionally, our nursery staff provides childcare for children (aged 0-8) for all congregational events. With at least 72 hours advance notice anyone who needs childcare in order to participate in the life of our congregation will be provided for. Our Nursery Policy can be downloaded here.
